Nayef Aguerd will hope to make his West Ham debut at some point in October.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.

Aguerd, 26, signed for the Hammers from Rennes in a £30million deal in June.

But the Moroccan centre-back is yet to turn out competitively for his new club because of an ankle injury he sustained in a pre-season game against Rangers.

As quoted by club media last Wednesday (7 September), Irons boss David Moyes revealed that Aguerd is now “out of his [protective] boot” and beginning the next phase of his recovery.

Dinnery predicted what that next phase might look like and when the defender could be ready to return to action.

“This will be a gradual transition,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“It won’t be a case of one minute being in the boot and the next minute he’s out. He’ll have been doing sessions and working on the anti-gravity treadmill.

“The next phase of this recovery, you want to recapture strength and mobility.

“You’re going to be out on the grass doing some straight line running and then hopefully incorporating some twisting and turning and eventually some ball work.

“It’s activity-based, so we aren’t really bound by specific timelines. But you would hope he could progress pretty quickly and he can be in contention for a start for West Ham at some point next month.”
